When I started working from home, one of the main items I was concerned about purchasing was my keyboard. Typing everyday should not only be a pleasurable experience, but should be seamless and reliable. I previously spent time using my MacBook Pro between the office and the lab, and so I wanted a keyboard to match the Apple Magic Keyboard for typing experience and overall useability.
This is where Logitech came into the mix. For me, over the years, Logitech have consistently produced high quality peripherals that lasted. Not only that, but their sleek designs with the careful use of blacks, greys and white match my aesthetic perfectly.
And their Master series really delivered. Designed for working professionals like myself, the kaybaord is aimed at producing wireless performance in a low profile, ergonomic way.
The MX Master Keys is an advanced wireless keyboard crafted for ergonomic comfort, with Smart Backlighting, USB-C quick charging, Easy Switch for up to 3 devices, Multi-OS compatibility, Logi Options+ customization, and multi-device Flow. It is a full size keyboard containing 108 keys including a full number pad. The keys have a low profile design, making the keyboard typing experience similar to that of a laptop, with a slightly longer key travel than the MacBook Pro keyboard and slightly noisier key sounds. Each key contains a circular divet that your fingers naturally fall into, creating a really simple and easy typing experience that is absolutely wonderful to experience. The keys themselves are matte finish, so they feel grippy without looking shabby, and the labelliing of the keyboard is neat and tidy.
The version of the keyboard I opted for contains labelling for both Windows & Mac, meaning I can easily transition across from each platform, whilst still being able to adjust to the keys specific to the operating systems.
One of my favourite features is the proximity sensor, allowing for the backlight to only come alive when you are close to the keyboard and about to type. Move away, and the keyboard will plummet back into darkness at a moments notice.
Overall, the keyboard is tactile, minimal and reponsive, with an excellent typing experience. The multifunctional keys are flawless, resulting in instant connectivity and seamless transitions between devices. Each of the 3 device-switching buttons are programmable via Bluetooth connection, or with the USB dongle provided (the Mac version comes with a USB-C dongle, the Windows only version is USB-A).
And, if using the keyboard alongside another item from the Master series, such as the MX Master 3 mouse, both can be connected through a single dongle so they don’t use more than one USB port. Noice.
The battery life is pretty great too - I think I have only had to charge the keyboard a handful of times since I bought them around a year ago.
Overall, I am very happy with this keyboard choice, and have no desire to upgrade anytime soon (i was considering switching to a mechanical keyboard - perhaps the new MX Mechanical might sway me towards itself at some point soon).
